The Ist Ukrainian School of Law on mergers and acquisitions was held in Kiev on April 28-29, 2012. This event was organized by the Student League of the Ukrainian Bar Association for students of 3-6 year courses of the leading universities in Ukraine.

The purpose of this event was to explain to the students "merger" and "acquisition" concepts, consideration of separate aspects of M&A transactions, familiarization with the basic problems and difficulties which may arise during fulfillment of M&A transactions.

Alexander Tretiakov gave a lecture on "Conducting legal due diligence - one of the most important stages of M&A transactions".

The American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine Real Estate Committee meeting with participation of representatives of the Kyiv City State Administration and the State Agency of Land Resources was held on April 26, 2012.

Overview of recent changes and perspectives of developments in land legislation, remarks to the draft law “On Land Market", in particular, regarding fixing ownership on agricultural lands with Ukrainian legal entities, its sale, land lease, as well as land circulation control, were discussed.

The participants have also paid attention to the draft law "On Amendments to the Land Code of Ukraine (On Holding Land Auctions)", in which the starting price at an auction is a very important issue.

The round-table on "Problems Hindering Development of Competition in Housing Construction Market" was held in the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine on April 24, 2012.

The issues of applying competitive procedures to allocation of land plots for construction, terms for commissioning residential objects, price differentiation and discrimination of market participants, activity of natural monopolists were discussed during the round-table.   

The Head and state commissiones of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine, representatives of other public authorities, construction companies, investors, professional unions, associations and law firms participated in the round-table.

The regular meeting of the Public Council of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine under supervision of Alexander Zavada, its Chairman, and participation of Raphael Kuzmin, the first deputy Chairman of the Committee, was held on April 24, 2012.

The Public Council accepted the draft State Program for Competition Development in 2013-2023 and the Plan on its fulfillment for consideration. Central and local public authorities, the National Bank of Ukraine, the NAS institutions were engaged by the Committee in discussion of these documents as well. Also, during the meeting the Public Council considered the Committee's Report for 2011, having expressed support for the agency.

In addition, in the near future the Council will accomplish processing and will submit to the Committee additional proposals to the draft laws on amending the Law of Ukraine "On Advertising". Preliminary comments to the draft laws were discussed during joint meeting of the Legal Committee and the Committee of the Public Council on Unfair Competition on April 24, 2012.

The V Annual Conference of Corporate Lawyers (legal counselors) was organized by the Ukrainian Bar Association in Kiev on April 20, 2012.

This conference brought together legal counselors from leading companies in Ukraine, as well as independent legal counselors from law firms and advocate associations.

The program included pending questions of activity in the field of legal support of companies, in particular, regarding minimization of risks during purchase of real estate and restructuring commercial entities, decriminalization of commercial crimes, application of the new Tax Code, unlawful advertising and unfair market competition, protection of copyright in the Internet, experience of the software products using in a company activity, as well as of bringing internal processing of personal data in compliance with requirements of the legislation.

The International scientific-practical conference "Public-Legal Regulation of Social Relations: Traditions, Modernity, Perspective" was held in Odessa on April 19-20, 2012. The conference was organized by the Department of Civil-Legal Sciences of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Civilist Association, the National University "Odessa Law Academy", the Economics and Law Faculty of the I.I. Mechnikov Odessa National University.

The conference was attended by the leading civilists of Ukraine, Russian Federation and other CIS countries.

The conference participants discussed the following issues: methodological foundations of the modern private law, direction of development of the modern civilistic doctrine, ownership rights and other proprietary rights; contract and contractual regulation of social relations; private non-proprietary rights; intellectual property.

A training seminar on registration of real estate rights was held on March 29, 2012 within the framework of practical implementation of the Protocol of Cooperation between the State Registration Service of Ukraine and Kimoniks International Inc., which operates under the United States Agency on International Development (USAID) Local Investment and National Competitiveness project.

The presentation by Alexey Kot was dedicated to the nature and types of court decisions, their requirements, content of decisions, as well as issues of additional decisions, explaining decisions and validity of court decisions.
